POST Property article leads with our Boscombe Ave alterations and additions project in City Beach, as we head to the Australian Institute of Architects WA Architecture Awards for 2015.
This was a modest project that started with a conversation with the owners on the merits of demolition versus renovation. We all feel the later was the smart choice because of the sustainability of re-using the existing structure and the irreplaceable charm of this ‘beach shack’ house a stones throw from the beach.
Completed over a three year period and two stages, this is a house which serves as an office and an all-year-round entertainer with some unique spaces.
The redeeming feature being the open alfresco verandah structure dominating the front facade. This is a place to integrate with passer-bys, enjoy a glass of wine at sunset and chat with your neighbours.
How much better would our communities be if we all had a semi-outdoor street facing room that we used?
